Behind-the-scenes dev progress, milestones, and future plans.

  • 🚐 v1.1 is here – and it’s packed!

    Live Now

This release introduces a whole slew of features—most notably, the new feature cards system on the home screen.

Yes, I got a bit carried away with the architecture… but now you can toggle visibility, reorder cards to suit your needs, and enjoy a modular, personalised dashboard for van management.

There are now 8 feature cards available:

    • Welcome
The welcome message; just a little hello from us.
    • Dimensions
Quickly check your van’s height, width, and length before a trip—so you don’t find yourself wincing under low bridges.
    • Vanniversary
Celebrate the day you got your van—it’s your Vanniversary! šŸŽ‰ Relive the memories and mark another year on the road (confetti cannon included!).
    • Fuel
Upgraded from v1.0, Fuel now supports the new feature card system and packs a revamped data structure. It’ll keep your logs clean by preventing out-of-order odometer or date entries.
    • Safety
Log safety gear like fire extinguishers and smoke detectors—so you’re never caught out with expired equipment where it matters most.
    • Mileage
Right now, it mostly mirrors the Fuel feature—but it’s laying the groundwork for more. Fuel entries automatically log mileage, and upcoming features like Tyre Tracking and Insurance will use it to track usage and limits.
    • How did you find us?
We’re handling all our own marketing right now, so we’d love to know what led you here.

    Looking Forward

In the works for v1.2 and beyond:

    • Social logins (Google / Apple)
    • App notifications (for your Vanniversary and upcoming tasks)
    • Tyre tracking (simple and complex / high detail modes)
      • If you want to keep it simple, you can just add a tyre set and be done. We will let you know when you should be checking them for replacement.
      • If you are into the specifics, you can track detailed stats, per-tyre, and have different sets like winter and summer tyres.
    • Legal tracking (MOT, insurance, breakdown service)
    • Lists – Packing lists that can be built and cloned from templates, with multiple stages.
      • Templates; create a standard base template, and add activity based sub templates. You can quickly start a standard trip list, and add in your hiking list, or grandchildren list, or beach list templates into the trip plan.
      • Stages; Some tasks must be done on the day, like scooping up your toothbrush, or the fridge food, some tasks need a pre-stage of purchasing the supplies, which then move on to ensuring they are packed once they are delivered.

  • v1.0 is live on the app stores!

🄳 We have officially launched v1.0 across these platforms:

Join us on our journey as build out VanKit, the van life multi-tool!

    Features

Add your van, and start tracking your fuel consumption today.

See stats on your cheapest / most expensive fills, browse graphs showing your mileage over time, spending breakdowns, and more.

    Coming Soon

Our current road map is to focus on van maintenance features for the first round of development, and then start building out the van-friendly events listings.

Vote and suggest your favourite features over on our suggestion board.

  • v1.0.0 App Store Submissions

I finished off the legal terms last night, and today I’ve spent the morning working on checking the registration flows.

It’s all done and working, so it’s on to the app store release processes now!

They say if you’re not a bit embarrassed about your MVP release (minimum viable product), then you waited too long.

I’m feeling in the middle. I’m only about 53hrs deep into the project so far, and I’ve got the basics in place:

    • Account registration / management
    • Add / manage vans
    • Van dimensions reminder (in metric and imperial)
    • Log fuel, view stats graphs, and logs, with awards
    • Premium tier waitlist
    • The boring bits in the app that people don’t think about, like the menu system, settings page, legal pages
    • And the other bits that go into supporting an app, like the domain, website, email systems, mailing list, feature suggestion portal

At some point I’ll get a design team involved, and there are so many extra features I want to build, but for now it’s just a race to the app store release, so that I can get flyers printed, ready for handing out to people I meet.

Can’t wait for the app store release approval process?

The web app version 1.0.0 is live now!

Update: 12:25pm submitted to Google Play for release approval.

Update #2: 7:05pm submitted to Apple App Store for release approval.

  • Google Play / Android Internal Test Group

We are making progress towards a proper release, and the first stages of that are getting the app store listings all set up, and doing internal testing.

If you’re curious then you can join the internal testing group for Android devices by following this link [update: this test has now ended].

As a v0.1.0 pre-release build, you can expect to be greeted by messy UI, potentially broken features, and placeholders.

If you find something and want to give feedback, please reach out via support@vankit.app.

  • The Road To Release

The app is currently in a mixed state. I am in a mad scramble to set up an MVP (minimal viable product) to release to the app stores and then build upon that.

The branding doesn’t exist, yet. The app design, colours, photos, even the logo are just called into existence with the magic of AI.

I’m focussing on my speciality, which is code quality.

The rest can be refined over time.

For the app store release it will have:

    1. Account management
    2. Social logins
    3. Van management
    4. Mileage logging
    5. Light customisation of the designs
    6. Basic versions of the supporting systems (domain, web-app, landing page, email, feature requests, support)
    7. iPhone and Android versions
    8. Flyers, ready to hand out to people I meet
